Instructions for use

For using ring sleeve (For assistance you may call +91 9830064758)

Irrigation should be done after a meal preferably a good breakfast. Best time to irrigate is in the morning, every morning but not necessarily at a fixed time everyday. Change in time of irrigation does not affect routines and in fact it helps keep you flexible. Without a meal evacuation generally remains incomplete. I suppose once or twice a week deviation from routine time is absolutely normal and brings about no harm at all. However, keep an eye on what you eat so that motility remains under check.

Please sit on the commode seat. Set the elastic belt around your waist to fit the sleeve correctly over stoma. Slit the sleeve bottom end for allowing exit. Lubricate the cone with a lubricant or water, evict air out of the water line and insert cone into the stoma about one and a half inch and adjust the direction and depth of cone in stoma to ensure that flow of water has begun.

Some people experience a piercing feeling when cone is inserted. It happens mainly because the shape of cone is sharp. The cones I have developed is correctly designed to avoid this discomfort.

Once sufficient water has been introduced and the inlet shut off, please hold the cone for about 1 to 2 minutes and then release the cone from stoma, close the sleeve top end and let evacuation begin on its own. In about 10 minutes almost entire bowel is cleared except a small residual stool which should be out in about 5 minutes or so. In some cases there may be delayed evacuation more because of presence of hernia rather than any other reason.

Put a clip or a rubber band to close the sleeve opening at the bottom and then go about other chores till evacuation is complete. Remove the sleeve, dump it into proper disposal bin, wash the stoma clean and then you are free for rest of the day's routine. You may use an adhesive pouch to keep the stoma closed with complete safety. In most of the cases you need not change to another pouch till the next irrigation is due. But if the pouch is found loose due to heavy loose motion then you may change to another pouch.

1.Please ensure you know the direction of your stoma. You could find out by wearing a rubber sterile glove, lubricating your fore finger with a suitable lubricant and then inserting it into the stoma – about 2 inches deep - to feel the direction of your stoma. Once you know the direction, please make sure that you insert the 'irrigation cone' in
the same direction just enough depth – no more no less - that water starts flowing into the system. You feel the cramping effect in the stomach that goes with watering for irrigation. But there is nothing to worry about, you could slow down the watering if you so desire.
2.Please get air out of the irrigation tube by releasing some water from the system using the control valve.
3.People of average height – upto 5' 8" - need about 1 litre of water, people upto 6' tall need about 1.2 litres of water. For shorter people 800 ml is enough.
4.After shower, if you want it, then, wear a stoma pouch for safety for the rest of the day till next irrigation is due.
5.The irrigation effect lasts for about 20 hours to 30 hours depending upon the eating habits. More vegetables, legumes, fruits cause faster bowel movements and meats, refined foods like bread made from white flours etc cause slower movement of bowels. Some foods make bowel move very fast and therefore to avoid embarrassment one should wear a pouch.
6. You must take control over the food you eat. Else the food will control your stoma behaviour. It is for you to determine which foods are trouble causing and how best to avoid them. Not all high fiber products are bad but a few are just terrible.

Instructions for use

For using adhesive pouch (For assistance you may call +91 9830064758)

1.Please find out the size of your stoma – 30mm?, 35mm?
2.Once you know the stoma size please cut the marked circle – which is 30mm dia – to suit your stoma size. The closer you cut to fit around the stoma better will be the functioning of your pouch. Insert a piece of gauze in the pouch to absorb moisture released by your stoma.
3.Use - ring pouch - for a normal stomach condition meaning if loose stool is not expected during the day. Just in case it does happen it will still hold and you will get a short notice period to change into something bigger in case you expect more loose stool. Change to - Adhesive pouch – and you will be safe. Frequent change may be necessitated if passing of stool is heavy. Sometimes it does become necessary mainly because of eating irregularity.
4.This pouch should be removed before irrigation the next morning and properly disposed.

For using ring pouch

It is simple and easy to use. Fix a belt to the pouch and ensure you have ring just around your stoma. The pressure of the elastic belt will keep the pouch in place. Just in case the belt is loose, it can be tightened by adjusting the buckle position. The pouch is disposable.

For checking Gas build up

Gas build up is a common feature and generally there is no solution to this problem. Many tries have been attempted but none have satisfactorily worked. We however, have a suggestion to make and it
works fairly fine. You may try this:

1.Make an incision with the help of a pair of scissors toward the top of the pouch. Press the gas out.
2.Then put an adhesive tape on the incision. Use good quality adhesive tape like '3M make micro pore'. This will stay in place. Every time you have this problem, you may remove the tape, release the gas and put the tape back. Careful handling of tape will ensure it will last as long as the pouch.

Stoma help - 1 dated 3rd Oct 2009

I am an ostomate and I greatly understand problems related to stoma care. That lets me look for scope to be of use to the society through my knowledge and understanding of the matter. Stoma is a matter of concern to most of the people. Many have started to accept but living with it is an experience only the afflicted understands.

Colostomy: The easiest of all types of ostomy and is of far lesser concern than the other two types, namely, iliostomy and urostomy.

Colostomy is on the left side and lets more or less normal stools. Sometimes there are loose stools and sometimes there is absolutely watery matter. The situation normally keeps inter changing but keeps the afflicted on toes for fear of getting exposed in an embarrassing mess up. There are many options available to tackle these problems.

In the case of iliostomy there is continuous flow of loose unformed stool and therefore makes it harder to manage than the case of colostomy. Most of the help that are available are expensive and management demanding to keep close to normal life going. It is tough indeed. It is for many cases the costs that are unmanageable. In India things are really tough for people to keep these costs to the minimum. I guess it must be so for sufferers in many other countries as well.

Urostomy lets continuous flow of urine. This too is difficult to manage as all the effective devices available are expensive and do not last long enough. That makes it very expensive.

I have some experience in plastics and adhesives to make me a useful hand. I have therefore decided to put in effort to cut down these expenses and simultaneously improve the quality of life. I have been successful in many ways but there is need for a constant effort to improve the systems that have been developed so far.

Devices developed for colostomy cases now cost about Rs. 10/- per day to a maximum of about Rs.25/- per day. Irrigation helps keep costs low and I find 'irrigation' as the only solution to many infirmities that colostomy brings. But non irrigation cases' can also try these products. The prospect of cost savings is lucrative. It may cost a maximum of about Rs. 25/- per day. In addition to the cost advantage the quality of life improves substantially due to very high comfort level in using these products against clumsy and bulky stuffs that imported products offer.

If anyone has any queries please send them to me, I will try to get back with proper answers.

Thanks.
